DANISH SIDEBOARD

Furniture Production

The Mahogany Danish Sideboard was my Industrial Technology Timber major project that I created for my Higher School Certificate (2018). It was nominated for the InTech Furniture Design exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.

This solid mahogany sideboard was inspired by sideboard no.156 made by Bernh Perdersen and Son from Denmark. The sideboard features a disappearing tambour door, which required 3D modelling, and laser-cutting to ensure the routed track lined up from top to bottom. The sliding door is made up from hundreds of small slats, which are glued to a fabric to maintain a solid but flexible panel. The doors slide behind a ‘false wall’ so it appears that they are disappearing into the cabinet.
